Hooray, the Perfect Day Zine is finally done, and on schedule as well. Here is how it looks like.
Huge thanks to the elf for sorting folding and tying. I only did the chopping.

Okay! I’m pleased to announce that the Perfect Day Zine is done- almost. They’ve not been assembled, but have been printed. Covers were printed today too on 225gsm Matt artcard with bleed. Tomorrow, a helpful elf (also the one who did the cover) will be toiling in my zine workshop to chop, sort, fold and tie the zines. In the meantime, a good thing will be to email me your mailing addresses. Those who I will see in school need not email, unless you are dying to lay your hands on it and I won’t see you until like next Friday.
The gist:
64 pages
Full color laser-printed cover based on an original watercolor artwork by Elf
Black and white photocopied guts
Bound with twine
1/4-sized
22 perfect days
Typeset in Adobe Caslon Pro
The zine will be put on my Etsy shop when it is completed. Price should be USD1.50-2 factoring in printing costs, Etsy and Paypal fees. NOT FOR PROFIT. Shipping would be another USD2. Of course, all contributors will receive a copy free-of-charge. :-)
Alright then. Thanks for reading, updates soon!
Hi all, sorry for the recent lack of updates, especially eversince the deadline just passed over a week ago. Anyhow, I’ve decided to stop looking for entries/accepting entries and as we speak am laying it out into zine format. Cover design will be done by Sarah now. :-)
Okay! Oh, the zine will have 22 people.
When it’s printed and compiled you will be informed.
Thanks all!
P.S. Those without Bio/email/websites to leave, will remain that way.
Thank you all who’ve sent your entries by the deadline. A total of 16 entries have been received, (an additional 2 have been declined and their writers have been informed - this is due to mismatch in theme). I’d like to get the zine to print when it has reached at least 30 entries so I hope the rest who have expressed interest would send their entries soon within the next 2 weeks!
Compilation zines are not the easiest thing to do as they involve many people with their own timelines and lives to lead so I’ll play by ear and if in 2 weeks there are still nowhere near 30 entries I will have to think of a Plan C. In the meantime…
Extended deadline: 15th October 2010.
Still haven’t gotten 2-line bios from a couple of you. If you see this, kindly send them over with any website/email addresses you’d like to leave. If you prefer to remain mysterious, that is fine too. :-)
Till then!
I love how when I’m taking a nap in the afternoon and then wake up to new submissions in my mail. Thank you everyone who’ve submitted so far.
The cover art is still in the making and I will post it up when it is done. As I’m looking for a particular aesthetic it may take some time to finalize this one. For the inside pages I’m thinking of using serif fonts and will look for an appropriate one. I will be planning the layout after this. Today I let myself do anything I want.
Paper-wise I will have to scout at the paper shop. I’m thinking of matte, slightly textured paper for the cover. I’d like to use 100% recycled paper for the insides but it is alarmingly difficult trying to find any brand that is sold to consumers here in Singapore. The only way I can think of is to borrow from my workplace and pay for it but that would make the entire financing a bit of a problem. (I did ask before).
The zine will hopefully have 30-32 participants. Some have yet to confirm so I try not to put a specific figure on it just yet.
By the way if you haven’t send your 2-line biography together with your website/blog/etsy shop/email addresses, do not hesitate! This will be on the backpage together with all the other contributors’ bios.
Alright then, about 5 days to deadline, am keeping my fingers crossed! Good luck!
:-)

Entries are trickling in, not gushing like I would like, but it’s something! ;-) Deadline in 1 week, you can do it!

Not a lot of new info to warrant a new post, but just to keep up to speed-
6 entries received, 1 declined due to mismatch in theme (thanks Damien, though for your effort!). Possibly more people participating but no confirmation as of yet. Set target of 36 may be reduced to around 30.
Cover art is in the making by Josh Naus.
12 days to deadline! :-)
As of 12th September 2010, 25 (excl. myself) have expressed their interest in participating in this zine. 3 have sent their submissions.
10 countries from 5 continents are currently involved:
Asia: Singapore, Japan
Oceania: Australia, New Zealand
North America: Canada, United States
Europe: Spain, France, Finland
South America: Argentina
Feel free to spread the word and involve people you think will like this kind of thing. I welcome submissions from anywhere, the more diverse, the better.
18 days to deadline! :-)

I thought it would be easier for me and you if there’s a page I could use to point people to regarding this zine project. Do check back for updates on the progress of the zine. Please look to the top for FAQ and Info on the zine. Better yet, if you have Tumblr, follow me!
Best,
Janell
